Is Reformer Pilates suitable for pregnant and postnatal women?
Yes – with the right guidance, Reformer Pilates can be a safe and supportive form of movement during pregnancy and postnatal.
At Empower, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider first to ensure Reformer Pilates is appropriate for your individual needs. Once cleared, our experienced instructors can offer modifications and tailored support to help you move safely and comfortably throughout each stage of pregnancy and recovery.
We focus on gentle strength-building, core connection, breathwork, and mobility – all of which can support your changing body and aid in postnatal healing.
If you're pregnant or recently had a baby, just let us know before class so we can guide you through appropriate variations and ensure you're getting the most out of your session, safely.
Your wellbeing is our priority – we're here to support you every step of the way.
Can I do Reformer Pilates if I have back problems?
In many cases, yes – Reformer Pilates can be incredibly beneficial for those with back issues, as it focuses on core strength, spinal alignment, mobility, and controlled movement.
At Empower, our instructors are trained to offer modifications and support, helping you move safely and comfortably. The Reformer machine provides low-impact, guided resistance, which can help strengthen the muscles that support your spine and improve posture – both of which are key to managing and preventing back pain.
However, we always recommend checking with your healthcare provider or physiotherapist before starting any new exercise, especially if you’re dealing with a specific injury or ongoing condition. And be sure to let your instructor know about your back concerns so we can tailor the session to your needs.
Your safety and comfort are our priority – and we’re here to help you move in a way that feels good for your body.
What should I bring to my Reformer Pilates class at Empower?
We keep things simple at Empower – here's what you'll need:
Grip socks – For safety and hygiene, grip socks are required on the Reformer. If you don’t have a pair, we have some available to purchase at the studio.
Water bottle – Stay hydrated! Bring a water bottle to keep by your Reformer during class.
Comfortable clothing – Wear something you can move freely in, like leggings and a fitted top. Avoid anything too loose, so we can support your form and alignment.
We provide all the equipment, so there's no need to bring anything else. Just arrive a few minutes early, bring your energy (or whatever you have that day!), and we’ll take care of the rest.
